Lucent

Terms of Service

Effective 20 September 2026. These terms apply to the Lucent website at lucentletters.com and the Lucent app (together, “Lucent” or “the service”).

1. Who provides Lucent

These terms are between you and Lucent (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at contact@lucentletters.com. Where these terms say “you”, they mean the person using Lucent.

2. What Lucent is

Lucent is a private journaling service. You write entries on any day; the service keeps them exactly as written, produces a short summary of each entry, asks you questions in a weekly session, and over time shows you which sentences and subjects return across your entries. It is a record of your own words, organised so that you can read them back.

3. Who can use it

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By using Lucent you confirm that you are 18 or older and able to enter into a binding agreement.

4. Your account

You need an email address to create an account. Keep your sign-in method secure and tell us at once if you believe someone else has access to your account. You are responsible for activity under your account until you tell us otherwise. One account per person; do not share it.

5. Plans, billing and renewal

Lucent is sold as a subscription in three lengths. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax that applies where you live; tax is shown at checkout.

PlanPriceRenews
1-week plan$13.86 per weekevery week at $13.86 until cancelled
4-week plan$39.99 per 4 weeksevery 4 weeks at $39.99 until cancelled
12-week plan$79.99 for the first 12 weeksevery 4 weeks at $39.99 after the first 12 weeks, until cancelled

6. Cancelling and refunds

You can cancel at any time from your account settings or through the link in your Paddle receipt. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid term; you keep access until then and are not charged again. Refunds are handled under our Refund Policy, which includes a full refund of your first payment on request within 14 days.

7. Your words

Everything you write in Lucent belongs to you. We claim no ownership of your entries, summaries you edit, or anything else you put into the service. You give us permission to store, process and display your entries to you, and to produce the summaries, questions and patterns the service is for. That permission ends when you delete your content or your account, except for backup copies, which are removed on the schedule in the Privacy Policy. We do not read your entries by hand, publish them, sell them, or use them to advertise to you.

8. How the service reads your words

Summaries, questions, subject grouping and the monthly letter are produced by an automated language model. Before an entry is sent to that model we remove email addresses, phone numbers and the names of other people. The model’s provider is bound by terms that do not allow it to train on your content. Automated output can be wrong or miss the point; it is offered as a reading of your words, not as a judgement about you, and nothing in Lucent scores, rates or forms a medical opinion about you.

9. Acceptable use

Use Lucent for yourself. Do not use it to store content that is unlawful for you to hold, to attempt to access another person’s account or our systems, to interfere with the service, to reverse engineer it, or to resell it. We may suspend an account that breaks these rules after telling you why, unless the law prevents us from telling you.

10. Not a treatment

This is a record, not a treatment. Lucent is not a medical, psychological or counselling service, does not provide advice, and is not a substitute for a qualified professional. If you are in a hard place right now, a person can help in ways this can’t. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.

11. Changes to the service

We improve Lucent over time and may add, change or remove features. If a change materially reduces what your paid plan does, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel for a pro-rated refund of the unused part of your current term.

12. Ending the agreement

You may end this agreement at any time by cancelling your plan and deleting your account. We may end it if you materially break these terms, or if we stop providing Lucent, in which case we will give you at least 30 days’ notice, a way to export your entries, and a pro-rated refund of any unused paid term.

13. Disclaimers and liability

Lucent is provided as it is and as it is available. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will produce any particular result. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or removes rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.

14. Consumer law

If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in its courts.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material we will email you at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use Lucent after that date means you accept the updated terms; if you do not, cancel before the change takes effect.
